OUR MISSION
The mission of the Y is "To Put Christian Principles into Practice through Programs that Build a Healthy Spirit, Mind, and Body for All."
We at the Y do not turn away individuals due to the inability to pay. Thanks to the generous support of Y Donors we are able to extend financial scholarships to individuals and families who need a little help to participate in Y Membership or Programs.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Backpack Program
In an effort to help feed the hungry children in our community, the Y has partnered with local churches to provide backpacks filled with healthy foods to needy children in our schools. The Y currently provides backpacks for 40 children from Oakboro Elementary each week. This program is made possible through the Strong Communities Fund and Wal-Mart.
Sunday Lunch Program
In an effort to reach out to the community's need for the service of a warm meal at the Community Table on Sunday afternoon, the Y has partnered with Bank of Stanly and Food Lion to provide the Sunday Lunch Program. Over 90 meals on average are served to our community's needy and disadvantaged at the Community Table in Albemarle. Volunteers are greatly appreciated. Please contact Kelley Bigger at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if interested in preparing and serving a meal one Sunday. It's a great mission outreach for groups and families.
Second Grade Learn to Swim Program
The Y proudly partners with the Stanly County Schools and Alcoa Foundation to provide the 2nd Grade Learn to Swim Program to 2nd graders across the county. Currently serving nine schools this year, the Y will teach over 450 students how to swim this school year! This program is brought to our community through the support of the Strong Communities Fund, Alcoa Foundation, and the Smith William Snuggs Endowment.
